Petronia Paley is an award-winning actor, director, playwright, and teacher. Ms. Paley was one of the pioneering African Americans in soap operas, landing a contract role on the daytime serial drama The Doctors as Dr. Jessie Rawlings. She moved on to One Life to Live as Harriet Johnson, then she portrayed Quinn Harding on Another World and finally played Vivian Grant on The Guiding Light. She appeared on Hollywood Squares. Petronia Paley is an actor, director, playwright, and teacher. She collects vintage clothes and dolls. She appeared on Hollywood Squares. She received a Women of Color directing award with her first directing play “Can We Dance”. Her solo-performance play “On the Way to Timbuktu” was nominated for five Innovative Theatre Awards: Nominated for two Innovative Theatre Awards, three Audelco Acting Awards, and won an Audelco Award for Best Solo Performance. She dropped out of college, and later returned to graduate. She founded “First Reading”, an emerging playwright reading series, at the Nuyorican Poets Café. She has directed both classical, contemporary, and new plays. She studied Indian cooking with two Indian gurus. Petronia majored in drama at Howard University. She performed in Greece at an ancient amphitheater under a full moon. Petronia Paley was Morgan Freeman’s and David Canary’s business partner on the TV soap opera Another World. Petronia has acted on TV’s Damages, Guiding Light, Another World, One Life to Live, and All My Children. She’s also acted on and off-Broadway and in regional theaters. Petronia hitched-hiked across North Africa at age 19. She was President of the drama club in college. She wrote and illustrated a children’s book.
